Now Celebrating Our 27th Year!
Thank you to all who make this event possible year after year!
The Bemidji Area Take A Kid Fishing event is currently being organized for the 27th straight year. The 2013 event is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, June 12th. Our sole purpose is to introduce kids to the great sport of fishing. Applications are available online and at the Bemidji Area Chamber of Commerce. Children must be 10-15 years of age, and applications should be submitted or mailed in by May 31st to the Bemidji Area Chamber of Commerce.
As in the past, 80-100 local anglers will serve as guides and volunteers, donating their time, equipment, and the knowledge required to make the event successful. As many as 200 kids have participated in a single event, and over 5000 area youth have been directly influenced. The kids are treated to an afternoon of fishing on various area lakes and the event concludes with a fish fry at Lake Bemidji State Park for the kids and parents at no cost to them. Our guides are also asked to nominate a young angler for the gift of a lifetime fishing license as 2 are awarded each year.
This year we are honored to offer 2 additional gifts of a lifetime fishing license in memory of Allyn Kendall and Michael Barclay
In addition to coverage by local print and radio media, the Bemidji Area Take A Kid Fishing event has been featured in regional television shows such as: “Fishing the Midwest” with Bob Jensen, “Out and About” with Ralph Jon Fritz, and “Tony Dean Outdoors.” “National Geographic Magazine” has featured the event as well.
We are very proud of our program and truly believe that it is the highest quality of its kind. Organizations from other communities, as far away as Indiana, have recently developed similar fishing programs for kids, after consulting with our committee.
